Well, Minions, we hope you had a good Internet Blackout day. We spent the day drinking, and repairing our website code, so now you can actually see what we're writing. Also, we got a new fancy image up top, courtesy of Dominus Maximus. (Wait, didn't he die?) What was it all for? Check this story from the NY Times about the Feds shutting down (as of time of writing, megaupload.com is unavailable) and hauling Megaupload.com into court for "piracy." Sure, it's users probably upload a lot of pirated material, but the site itself is just a tool. Now imagine this scenario, only the Corporations and Feds don't need to drop charges on a site. They just pull the plug because they feel like it. They can do this right now, but they want more legislation and more power. Scary shit, huh? Total "1984"/Commie China bullshit, if you ask us. "BUT THIS IS 'MERIKA, HOME OF THE FREE EVERYTHING!" you may cry. Well, it's not gonna be free much longer, If you want to know more about the protests against the Stop Online Piracy Act (which has apparently been abandoned to die on the House) and the PROTECT IP Act (Basically the same thing, but in the Senate), check out what Google, Mozilla, Wired, The Oatmeal, and Wikipedia have to say on the subject; for those of you with longer attention spans, you can read the full text of the pending legislation for SOPA here, and PIPA here. Stay Brutal. Category:general
